t Ignatius holds that it does not matter how short or how long one's prayer period will take for as long as the goal is achieved, i.e., “To have God always before one’s eyes.” To fix our gaze solely on one thing would already be a big grace to receive in a single formal prayer period, let alone to find God. Fixing one’s own gaze on God, goes beyond finding God. For the musically inclined among us, it is like following or playing the beat in everything, without going too fast or too slowly. During this time of the Epiphany of the Lord let us be guided by the example of the poor shepherds and the wise men bearing gifts. Ever in Scripture it is the heart that prays.
